This week is LACA’s National School Meals Week in the UK, an event dedicated to promoting the benefits of healthy eating and active lifestyles for pupils nationwide. As a proud provider of fresh produce to schools, we fully support this initiative and recognise the lasting impact that nutritious meals and regular exercise can have on children’s development and well-being.
To mark the occasion, we were invited by local Darley Dale Primary School to attend lunch service yesterday (13th November) and had an unforgettable time celebrating with the pupils. Our team spent the lunch service interacting with them, sharing insights into the fruits and vegetables we supply to their school kitchen, and chatting about how fresh produce and a balanced diet contribute to healthy minds and lifestyles.
The pupils were wonderfully polite and enthusiastic, and it was inspiring to see how curious they were about the food they eat. We brought along some interactive stickers, inviting the children to write down their favourite fruits, vegetables, and school meals. This activity sparked great conversation and helped us learn about their tastes. To our surprise, watermelon and cherries topped the list of favourites! The pupils and catering staff also mentioned that the roast chicken dinners, packed with vegetables, are always well recieved.
During lunch, the children, who were eager to chat to us about their favourite foods and share stories about what they enjoy most. Moments like these remind us why our work is so important—it’s about supporting healthy, enjoyable meals that nourish young minds and bodies.
Our thanks to Darley Dale Primary School for the warm welcome and to the pupils for making the visit so memorable. Being part of the school lunch service not only gave us valuable insights into how our produce supports healthy eating in action but also gave the children a chance to see the faces behind the work that goes into getting fresh food onto their plates. We’re proud to support schools in promoting nutritious choices, and we look forward to helping children continue to discover the joy of eating well!
